How to choose the right paper for your wedding invitations

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

Choosing the perfect invitations is an essential aspect when planning your wedding stationery. Unconsciously, once your guest has their invite in their hands, one of the first impressions, is how the paper feels in their hands. Your paper style selection and weight can make a significant impact on the overall look and feel of your invitations. Just think about if you were to print your invitations on computer paper vs a type of card stock.

Having used many different papers of the years, I have narrowed down my favorites to a few that are versatile and cost-effective. Here are a few of my top picks:

Cotton: One of my absolute favorite paper styles is cotton. It offers a soft feel and texture that leaves a lasting impression on your guests. It is great for foil or letterpress and will add a touch of elegance to your invitations. It also comes in white or ivory (natural white)

Double Thick: If you want to create an impact, opt for double thick cards. As the name suggests, these invitations are twice as thick as regular invitations and will definitely grab your guests' attention. Double thick invitations are available in various styles, including smooth, textured, matte or glossy, which makes it a versatile option to use for all types of events.

Metallic: Another favorite style of mine is metallic invitations. Metallic papers come in a range of colors and offer a luxurious look and feel. It is a perfect option for high-end events and will make your invitations stand out. The shimmer is the perfect way to add some sparkle and elegance to your suite

When selecting your invitation style and type, remember that simplicity is always better. Classic, timeless looks such as cotton, double-thick and metallic invitations, showcase artwork and provide a versatile range of options. These types of invitations are sure to leave a lasting impression on your guests and set the perfect tone for any event.

Selecting the right paper style selection and weight for your invitations is essential. The choices you make will have a significant impact on the overall look and feel of your invitations, setting the tone for your event. So, before you choose your invitations, consider the styles and types that will make a lasting impression on your guests.
